dc.description.abstract Power plants with larger capacities should be introduced to the system to meet the future demand of the country. This paper discusses the possibility of introducing nuclear power plant (NPP) to meet this demand. Since the nuclear power plants are based load plants base load of a system should be sufficient to operate NPP. The paper analyses future demand of the country to see the feasibility of NPP to Sri Lankan power system. The paper also discusses different technologies for NPP and type of reactor that may be suitable for Sri Lanka. The paper analyzes the possible locations of NPP considering factors that are affected in deciding locations for NPP. The aspect of radioactive waste management which is one of critical aspects in NPP operation has been also discussed. The options available for the NPP to the exiting grid also are a part of this work. en_US
