Convertible Ladies’ Casual Wear Collection (S/S) for the U.S. Inspired by the Pearl Oyster

Abstract

This study presents the design and development of a convertible, comfortable casual wear collection for upper-class single women aged 25–30 in the United States. It addresses the lifestyle demands and psychological needs of this demographic, shaped by a fast-paced, career-driven culture and often conservative social attitudes. Many in this group prioritize professional success, face societal undervaluation, and have limited time for leisure or personal well-being. There is a clear demand for versatile garments that transition effortlessly between professional and social settings. Comfort here is both physical and psychological, supporting confidence and ease. The collection integrates functional, convertible design elements to meet these needs. Its conceptual framework draws from the film Miss Congeniality (2000), whose protagonist reflects independence, resilience, and adaptability qualities central to the target consumer. Design inspiration comes from the pearl oyster, symbolizing transformation, understated beauty, and strength. Developed under the Tommy Hilfiger brand, known for youthful and innovative aesthetics, the collection uses lightweight linen for comfort, breathability, and seasonal suitability. Elegant embroidery and convertible features allow easy adaptation for varied occasions, merging functionality with refined style.
