Abstract:
Under the concept of “4th Industrial
Revolution Garments,” this study explores the
integration of FDM 3D-printed elements with
conventional textiles for innovative ready-to-wear
garments. Using Rigid Origami and the Interloped
technique, the study conducted 10 material
experiments with PLA, TPU, and wood-based
filament, resulting in six principal designs and six
garment prototypes. TPU provided greater
flexibility, while PLA and wood-based filament
produced more structural forms, with hinged
panels explored to connect printed components
while allowing movement. The findings
demonstrate the feasibility of FDM 3D printing as a
complementary technology in conventional
garment construction and highlight the need for
further research into material efficiency, durability,
and environmental performance.
